Oral surgery

Oral surgery includes all those operations carried out in anaesthesia locale in the cavity oral. I diverse tipi of treatment are:

Avulsions

They are dental extractions that are performed on badly positioned teeth, life for example, wisdom teeth, or the extractions of teeth gravely compromised by fillings or compromised by the presence of periodontal pockets (pyorrhoea).

Dysodontiasis of the wisdom teeth

Frequently, the lack of adequate space along the dental arches leads to or a missing eruption or bad positioning of the wisdom teeth with consequent malocclusion. This is associated with an infection called “pericoronariti” with pain and swelling. If one has a remission with antibiotic therapy, but the recurrence is very frequent. The third molars are checked-up between 14-16 years old.
The check-up is performed through radiographic exams: orthopantomography and computerised tomography (CBCT).

Infection of the wisdom teeth can lead to complications of a certain gravity:

  • Abscesses
  • Spread of the infection via submandibular lymphatic and lymphadenitis
  • Grave trismus for the involvement of the muscle masticators
  • Spread of the infection towards adjacent anatomic regions (parapharyngeal, facial, submandibular)
  • Intravenous backscatter with involvement of the orbit and the meninges
  • Septicaemia or septic shock

The third molars have a strict relationship with the second molars creating lesions to support tissues; sometimes therefore their extraction is indicated.

Abscesses

The abscess is a purulent collection in a cavity newly formed by bacterial infection.
The therapy consists of incision and draining and antibiotic support.

Apicectomy

The apicectomy is a surgical operation to remove lesions all apex of a tooth called granuloma.
The most frequent indication for the apicectomy is the failure of canal therapy of a dental element whose conservation is retained necessary

Cysts

The cyst is a new formation, generally of a spherical form, which has the tendency to grow at the expense of the surrounding tissue that is reabsorbed.
One can have significant growths with dislocation of adjacent teeth; for this, the avulsion is indicated.
