Restorative Dentistry

Restorative Dentistry deals with the therapy of the carious lesions of teeth.
The caries is a pathological destructive process of the hard tissues of the dente, characterised by infection and demineralization with the formation of cavity that extends from the periphery of the tooth towards the pulp. These cavities are the consequence of the decalcification of the mineral components and the destruction of the organic dental tissues.
The caries can be superficial or deep. In the first case, it limits itself to remove part of the dentine and the enamel affected by the caries, filling the teeth with suitable materials (silver amalgam or composites). In deep caries, there may be an interest of the pulp of the tooth containing the nerve fibre, and then one use the canal care, also called devitalisation.

Silver amalgam

It is an alloy made up of various metals (silver, copper, tin) mixed with a small quantity of mercury to be able to model once the cavity is filled. It has an optimum marginal seal and a long life but has a colour that does not camouflage with the dente, requires the preparation of a retentive cavity and therefore wider and potential toxicity due to the mercury; in some northern countries, the use of such material has been abolished. Recent studies have reported a relationship between toxicity by mercury and illnesses that are degenerative for the nervous system. In our studio this material has not be used for years and the fillings are performed with a non-toxic material and are much more aesthetic – the composite.

Composite

It is a material of aesthetic characteristics for recovery of a caried cavity, or to rebuild parts of a tooth that were lost, for example, due to trauma. Different to the amalgam that adheres to mechanical criteria, the composite adheres to adhesive criteria that allow avoidance of retentive cavity. It is a non- toxic and aesthetic material.

Direct restorations

They are performed directly in mouth, in a sitting.

Restoration indirect

They are inlays that they are performed in two or more sittings with the help of the dental technician.
